Carl Porchak Passes

Longtime harness racing industry participant Carl Porchak of Burgessville, Ont. passed away on Monday, January 26 at the age of 95.

Instilling laughter, love and enjoying making people smile, Carl happily celebrated his 95th birthday in November. A trainer and owner of Standardbreds for decades, he is the brother of Jayport Farms' owner and operator Tom Porchak.

Carl is survived by his loving wife Blanche. Proud father of Nancy Cattell (Carl Miller), Rob (Janet), Janie Schaafsma (Phil) and Kim Baskett (Pat); grandchildren, Christine, John, Todd, Anthony, Andrew, Kyle, Colin, Alicia, Dustin, Haley and nine wonderful great grandchildren, Rainen, Dylan, Mason, Brianna, Brooklyn, Paige, Brielle, Emery and Ryder . Survived also by sister Pauline. Predeceased by his siblings, Wanda, John, Pete, Walter, Henry, Ed, Joe, Rosie and Stanley.

Friends will be received at THE ARN-LOCKIE FUNERAL HOME, 45 Main Street West, Norwich, Ontario (519) 863-3020 on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral service to celebrate Carl's life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday January 29, 2015 at 11:00 am with Rev. David Van Patter officiating. Interment Burgessville Baptist Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to CCAC Woodstock or Norwich Historical Society.
