Solly Shower Breezes In Middlesex Series

The Middlesex Trotting Series highlighted Western Fair Raceway's Saturday night card with six $9,000 divisions and Solly Shower breezed to victory in the fastest split.

Solly Shower dominated his division for colts and geldings with a marvelous nine length, wire-to-wire triumph in 2:02.3 for trainer/driver Scott Farrington.

The bay gelding immediately took off from Post 3 by seven lengths. Solly Shower carved out fractions of :28.3, :59.4 and 1:30.1 without facing a single challenge. With a 32.2 final quarter, the 2-1 second choice cruised to victory lane.

Rebel Strike (Garrett Whelan) finished second and Gritty Fame (Brad Forward) was third.

The son of Hes In The Shower, who is owned by Giovanni Zangari of London, Ont., picked up his second win in eight outings this year.

Stormont Yeltsin (Ross Battin) converted from a pocket trip to upset in his division by a neck in 2:02.4. The son of Kadabra, who is trained and co-owned by James McKague, notched his first win in 10 starts this year.

Corkemup (Dale Fritz) used front-end tactics to score by three lengths in the final division for colts and geldings in 2:04.2 for trainer Randy Fritz and owners Joey and James Ayotte of Grimsby, Ont. The three-year-old son of Wesgate Crown improved his record to 4-3-1 in his eighth outing this year.

Sudden Splendor (Dave Wall) notched her second lifetime win in the first fillies and mare division in a time of 2:05.3. The Malabar Maple miss, owned and trained by Gary Brown, rode the pocket until making the winning decision at the third quarter mark.

Jayportlookatme was the centre of attention in the second split, winning in 2:04.1 for trainer/driver Brent Belore. That daughter of Kadabra, who is owned by James and Jean Caddey and Colleen Belore of Embro, Ont., also scored her second lifetime win tonight.

Disappearing Act (Don McElroy) got the job done in the final fillies and mares split in 2:03.2. The daughter of Kadabra took her third straight victory and fourth of the year for trainer Stephane Bossence and Lee Barton Enterprises Ltd. of Edmonton, Alta.
