Oceanview Kitty In Record Time

Oceanview Kitty rewrote the Summerside Raceway record book Tuesday night with a stunning 1:58.1 victory in her $12,060 division of the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies.

Owner/trainer Claude Poirier drove the daughter of N Xample to the victory over One Fifty West (Dr. Ian Moore) in her first lifetime start.

Oceanview Kitty left from Post 6 and was sent to the front in an opening panel of 29.1 overtaking One Fifty West, the full sister to last year's two-year-old seasonal leader Imps Finesse.

Oceanview Kitty took them past the half in 59.3 and began to pull away from the field on the backstretch, cruising by the third station in 1:29.1 before getting home in :29-seconds to shave two fifths of a second off the old standard set by Brendons Gal (Mike Stevenson) in 2006.

One Fifty West held for second with Shadow Dancer (Brian MacPhee) finishing third.

Ocean Kitty is a half-sister to Southview Sally, who was the leading money winner in Maritime harness racing last year.

Poirier, who owned Southview Sally, purchased Oceanview Kitty for $11,000 at last year's Atlantic Classic Sale from the consignment of Bill Roloson of Belfast.

The other "A" division of the stake went to Darko, a daughter of Largo owned by Ralph Annear of Montague, and driven by Clare MacDonald, who came back off the disabled list to win the $12,060 test in a maiden mark of 2:01.2.

Darko yielded the lead to Woodmere Humdinger (Gilles Barrieau) at the three-quarter pole in 1:32.2, but rallied in the stretch for the one-length victory. Camco Wineette (Walter Cheverie) was third.

Tuesday evening's card also featured two $2,500 "B" divisions of the stake.

Tobins Country took a maiden mark of 2:03.1 for Gilles Barrieau and owners Ralph, Kevin and David Sweet of O'Leary.

Come Home Star won in 2:06.3 for Kenny Arsenault and owners Clifton Gardner and Betty Higgins of Crapaud, PEI. It was the first lifetime win for the Western Success colt.
