Monmouth County Asks For Freehold Sanctions

According to a story in the Asbury Park Press, the Monmouth County legislative delegation has sent a letter to New Jersey State regulators asking for sanctions against Freehold Raceway.

The sanctions include withholding the track's 2009 race dates.

The letter was signed by four state senators and eight assembly members, all Republicans. The signatories are Senators Jennifer Beck, Joseph M. Kyrillos Jr., Sean T. Kean and Robert W. Singer; Assemblymen David Rible, Declan O'Scanlon, Samuel D. Thompson, Joseph R. Malone III and Ronald S. Dancer; and Assemblywomen Caroline Casagrande, Mary Pat Angelini and Amy H. Handlin.

Freehold is eligible for $1.6 million in purse supplement funds for November through January and another $2.6 million in 2009, but, thus far, Pennwood refuses to sign the agreement which was negotiated through the governor’s office between the New Jersey Casino Association and the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority (NJSEA), the agency that operates the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park.
