Hope For Summerside Grandstand Funding?

On Tuesday, Gail Shea made history in the western PEI riding of Egmont when she became the first woman ever elected for the area. Now that Shea is in a position of power, there might be a chance there will be funding for a new grandstand at Summerside Raceway.

A report yesterday in The Guardian states that Shea, late in her campaign, promised to lobby for funding for a new grandstand for Summerside. According to the article, Shea said that the issue will have to be a top priority, as the grandstand will have to be replaced before the 2009 Canada Games, which take place in the summer.

"I mention it because of the timelines for the upcoming Canada Games," Shea was quoted as saying.

In late September, members of the Prince County Horsemen's Club were shocked after the provincial government revealed that it would not be funding repairs to the grandstand.
