CDP Open To General Luckypercy; Special Ceremony For Hennessey

General Luckypercy shot up the passing lane and used a :27.4 second closing quarter to beat Charlottes Maggie in 1:58.4 in Thursday’s Mares Open at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Ron Matheson engineered the winning trip with General Luckypercy, who notched her seventh win from 16 starts this season. Charlottes Maggie (Mike Stevenson) was second, after laying down fractions of :29.1, 1:00.1 and 1:30.3, Skylark Hanover (Brodie MacPhee), a stablemate of the winner, was third. Jackie Matheson does the training for owners Jodilyn Shepherd of Cambridge, ON and Jack Brown of Stratford, PE.

Charlottetown native Wally Hennessey was home for a special trackside presentation. Mayor Clifford Lee and members of City Council presented Hennessy the key to the city in honour of Hennessey 8,000th career win recently at his home base in Pompano, Florida. Hennessey became only the sixth citizen to receive the honour.

Racing returns Saturday at 6 p.m. featuring the Island Pacing Championship presented by Meridian Farms. Red Shores Summerside hosts a Sunday afternoon program at 1 p.m.
