Moreau Trainees Triple Up At Mohawk Park

It was another productive night at the office for trainer Richard Moreau, who posted a three-win performance during Monday evening’s 10-race card at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Moreau got the ball rolling with veteran pacer Julerica, who front-stepped his way to a 1:51.4 triumph in the fourth race for teamster Sylvain Filion.

That favourite was followed up by a pair of upsetting stablemates named Iluvmymiumius and Hammer Time.

Iluvmymiumius, who was let go at odds of 10-1, turned a two-hole trip into a 1:55.3 tally in Race 7.  Louis-Philippe Roy worked out the beautiful trip for the filly who popped off the rail on the way to the three-quarters and then drew off to win by three lengths over race favourite Pencils Down in 1:55.3.  Massiah managed to take home third prize.

New recruit Hammer Time turned his ground-saving trip into a narrow triumph in Race 9 for driver Sylvain Filion.  The eight-year-old son of Muscle Hill-Precious Lindy marched first over on the way to the three-quarter pole and then used a :27.4 kicker to win by a head over odds-on favourite Spartan General.  Third prize went to the rallying Macho Martini.  The mile was clocked in 1:53.1.

The three-win performance by Moreau gives him a little more breathing room in what has been a solid year for his outfit.  To date, Moreau has racked up 140 wins at Woodbine Mohawk Park.  He’s just 11 wins ahead of Carmen Auciello in the race for this year’s training title at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.

The 2000 season was the first year Moreau’s barn banked over $1 million in earnings, but it’s not a feat that he’s accomplished every year since that inaugural seven-digit season.
