Standardbred Canada's Canadian Open Yearling Sale concluded with the second of its two sessions today at the SC Sale Pavilion at Flamboro Downs with totals up

substantially from last year.

Mother Nature smiled on the Golden Horseshoe and helped attract yet another massive crowd to the Sale Pavilion. The second session saw 131 horses enter the sales ring and fetch a total of $1.878 million and an average of $14,336.

Over both days, 257 horses sold for just over $3.9 million. The sale average of $15,191 is a marked increase from 2008's $10,786 average.

SC Sales Manager Heather Reid was very pleased with the results.

"We had good weather, a great crowd and a nice crop of yearlings to offer," Reid told Trot Insider. "The buyers responded accordingly."

Day Two's session topper was Dancin Darlin, the two-year-old sister to impressive Grand Circuit winning freshman Il Villaggio. John Kopas collared the filly for $140,000 from the Peninsula Farm consignment for Cool Creek Standardbreds.

Exquisitely-bred yearling Raising Rhonda fetched the highest price during Day One of the Canadian Open Yearling Sale. The SJs Caviar sister to standout trotting filly Raising Rachel, was raised by Cool Creek Standardbreds and also purchased by John Kopas from the Peninsula Farm consignment for $200,000.

On Day One, a total of 127 horses went through the sales ring and brought a total of just over $2 million, resulting in an average of $16,080.
