Famous Mark Upsets Preferred Trotters

Veteran trotter Famous Mark rallied home off cover and wore down the favourite to pull off a 14-1 upset in Georgian Downs' featured $15,000 Preferred 2 Trot on Tuesday night.

Famous Mark and catch-driver Aaron Byron settled away fifth early on from a post eight start while Grande Diablo (Anthony MacDonald) worked for the lead during a :27.4 opening quarter over the bettors' choice, Lakefield (Sylvain Filion). Grande Diablo cleared to command during the second panel and then raced to the half in :56.

As the trotters headed towards the 1:25.4 third quarter mark, Keystone Swagger (James MacDonald) advanced first up with Famous Mark following his cover before exploding down the lane to score by two lengths in 1:56 over the favourite. Celebrity Cowboy (Dan Clements) edged out Keystone Swagger for third.

Famous Mark returned $30.20 to his backers. Ben Baillargeon trains the winner of four races in 14 starts and nearly $30,000 in purses this year for owner Marcel Guy Ouimet of Laval, Que.

The nine-year-old son of Famously notched his 48th career win and pushed his bankroll to $482,679.
