After a 15-day hiatus thanks to Old Home Week racing in Charlottetown, live harness racing returns to Prince County with a Wednesday evening presentation at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The western P.E.I. oval has 13 dashes starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening with the $3,300 top event carded as race 12.

Melody Maker is the morning line favourite from post five with Dale Spence in the race bike for owner/trainer Greg MacInnis of Tyne Valley, P.E.I. The five-year-old son of Hes Watching had been red hot at Red Shores Summerside with seven straight victories but saw his win streak snapped with a third-place finish at Red Shores Charlottetown during Old Home Week. Even though the winning ended, his mile was paced in a snappy 1:53.2 that night as he faced off with Preferred pacers Rollwithhottytoddy and Fern Hill General.

Melody Maker’s main competition on Wednesday comes from the left wing of starting gate as Sauble Attack leaves from post one for driver Ken Murphy. The Paul Biggar-trained son of Bettors Delight has made three trips to the winner’s circle in 2023 including a 1:54.4 clocking during Governor’s Plate Week.

Woodmere Ideal Art has post two as a major threat with David Dowling at the controls for Sifroi Melanson. Doc Darryl (to be driven by Colin Sheppard) will hold down post three while Frontier Cruise (Corey MacPherson) will be saddled with post four.

The "Backstretch Beat" sees a winning smile in Melody Maker’s future: “Melody Maker finally tasted defeat at Red Shores Charlottetown but what a run he had leading up to it. He is back at his home track and will be looking to get a new win streak started.”

The $2,700 race 13 finale has Nannie Bernice as the morning line favourite with Dowling driving for owner-trainer Janice Hubbard. The Artspeak filly will face seven challengers including Flowersonthebeach (Spence) from post two and JJ Patrick (Norris Rogers) from the outside post eight.
