Mohawk Qualifier Recap

Mohawk Racetrack hosted an eight-race qualifying session this morning. Both juvenile and aged competitors put their best hooves forward and produced

some solid miles.

In Race 1, juvenile Klingon Hanover gelding M G Hurricane stepped to a two and a quarter-length victory for driver Jason Gale and trainer Bruce Culbert. The gelding was putting in his first-ever charted line. The win time was 1:59.3.

Driver Trevor Ritchie and trainer Rheal Bourgeois clicked in Race 2 with two-year-old Amigo Hall colt Lexis DJ. Acquiring the lead after the opening quarter, the bay trotted off to a wide lead through the lane en route to a nine and a quarter-length victory in 2:02.

Converting a pocket ride in Race 3, two-year-old Western Terror filly Striking Terror made a winner of driver Randy Waples and trainer Travis Alexander. In what was the filly's first qualifier since shipping in from Hazel Park, Striking Terror paced her mile in 1:59.1 and threw up a two and a half-length margin of victory.

Give The Gift was a wire-to-wire winner for pilot Steve Condren and trainer Bob McIntosh in Race 4. The two-year-old Camluck filly tripped the final timer in 1:59.1, triumphant by a half-length.

Three-year-old Amigo Hall gelding Lexis Amigo gave Rheal Bourgeois his second winner of the morning during Race 5. With Mike Saftic in the race bike, Lexis Amigo put in a dominant gate-to-wire mile, as he romped in 1:57.2, truimphant by 14 lengths.

Need A Job was also a gate-to-wire winner for trainer Tracy Brainard during the morning's sixth contest, as the three-year-old Grinfromeartoear gelding cruised to a two-length victory in a solid 1:53.4.

Six-year-old Angus Hall mare First To The Front was just that in Race 7, as the student of Frank Baker, Jr. made every pole a winning one and recorded a half-length victory in 1:59 for driver Luc Ouellette.

The final dash of the morning went to six-year-old Western Ideal gelding Kindly Poet. In rein to Randy Waples for trainer Murray Brethour, Kindly Poet paced his mile in 1:54.2 and posted a three and a quarter-length margin of victory.
