Buckeye Stallion Series Continues

The popular Buckeye Stallion Series made a stop at the Crawford County Fair in Bucyrus, Ohio Wednesday night before a large crowd of fairgoers.

A total of 36 two-year-old trotting colts and geldings filled four division to compete in the second leg of the series (each race carried a purse of $17,500).

The second leg of the series saw four new winners from the opening leg on July 2 at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

Scott Mogan’s Cellular, with driver Sandy Beatty, came three and four-wide from the three-quarter pole to get up by a nose in 2:03.4. The Uncle Peter-Fire In The Cell colt is owned by Mogan, Green Wave Racing, and Carol Cramer. The longshot paid $20.60 and defeated the favoured Checkmate and Ryan Stahl, while Blank Space As finished third for Elliott Deaton.

Stahl was not to be denied in the second division, though, as Dontforgetlittlman was a winner by one and three-quarter lengths in 2:04 with a final panel of :29.3 for owner/trainer Deborah Swartz. The favourite by Dontyouforgetit-Gutsy got away fourth from Post 5 and took the lead past the half to get the victory. Graffenberg, with Shawn Baker II, finished second, while Csgoldenship and Daren Harvey finished third. Dontforgetlittlman paid $5.40 to win.

In the third division, Newsboy dominated by going wire to wire for driver Alex Hawk and trainer Charles Vigneron. The win time was 2:02.1 and Newsboy sealed the deal with a :29.4 final quarter. Cheryl Vigneron owns the Winning Fireworks-Lady SJ colt and returned $39.20 to win over the favoured Peters Royalty and Josh Sutton, while Very Smart and Ryan Stahl finished third.

The final BSS winner on the card was Worldsstonecold AS, who got the job done in 2:05 for driver Elliott Deaton and trainer Anette Lorentzon. The Lionhunter--Tropical Breeze colt left from Post 1 and got a two-hole trip before scoring by one and one-half lengths over the favoured Johnny Boy and Jonas Hershberger. Blue Jacket and Josh Sutton finished third. The winner paid $8.60.

The third leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series for two-year-old trotting colts is scheduled for Wednesday August 12 at MGM Northfield Park.
