'Golden Boy,' 'Silk Lace' Splits Contested

On Saturday, July 13 at the Glenboro Agricultural Society, a pair of opening-leg divisions of the MSSBA Golden Boy Stakes and an opening-leg division of the MSSBA Silk Lace Stakes took place over the Manitoba half-miler.

The first of the 'Golden Boy' splits saw Reys N A Commotion, a three-year-old Armbro Trench colt driven by his trainer, Don Howlett, record a two and a quarter-length, wire-to-wire victory in 2:04.2 from Post 6. One Kool Bud finished second and P Ts Bad Boy was third.

The second of the Golden Boy splits saw the Dean Ray-trained and driven Charming Design hold on for a wire-to-wire neck win in 2:07.2. The three-year-old Charms Shark colt held off a spirited late rally by Whatchamacallit. Another Great Pick finished third.

Three-year-old Abbatom filly For The Roses captured the lone 'Silk Lace' division, as Dean Rey guided the Roland Rey-trained miss to a wire-to-wire, two-and-three-quarter-length win in 2:07.3. MB Swamp Donkey finished second and Shes A Princess was third.
