After posting a going-away win over the best pacers on Cape Breton Island last week, Chase N Madi ($3.90) did it again in Sunday's (July 12) winners-over feature at Inverness Raceway — but in a much more dramatic fashion.
Once again teamed up with driver Rodney Gillis, Chase N Madi ducked to last early on in the compact field of four contesting a $1,150 purse while Modern Best (Gerard Kennedy) rated tepid early splits of :29.4 and 1:00.2. On the second circuit, Chase N Madi made his presence felt, advancing first-over and engaging Modern Best in an extended duel past three-quarters in 1:30.1 and through the final turn. Despite being forced to cover extra ground, Chase N Madi nosed out Modern Best in 1:59.2, while Your Raider Boy (Leander Beaton) finished a one-paced third — 2-1/4 lengths behind — from the pocket.
Chase N Madi, a six-year-old Mystery Chase gelding owned and trained by Donald Beaton, now has 16 wins to his credit.
