On Saturday, April 7, Deetzy bested Artful Way, who has dominated the Open ranks at Saratoga Harness, in a 1:52.2 mile in the $12,000 pacing feature.
With Artful Way assigned post eight, Deetzy and driver Phil Fluet grabbed the lead, setting comfortable splits in control. The six-year-old Jim Nickerson trainee expanded his lead approaching the three-quarter pole, coasting in the final stages to win over Poisonous and Jk Panache.
Artful Way, the even-money favourite, was a non factor, missing the board. In a minor upset, Deetzy paid $15.40 to win.
