Topaz Seelster Looks For Princess Repeat

The $25,000 second leg of the Princess stakes series, for three-year-old pacing fillies, is the marquee event of Mohawk raceway’s 2009 opening card on Thursday night, April 30 … and a filly named Topaz Seelster is the one to watch.

Topaz Seelster roared to a four-and-a-half-length victory in the Princess opener a week ago at Woodbine, tossing off a :27.2 final panel and setting a new lifetime clocking of 1:52.2 in the process. The daughter of Apaches Fame, out of the Albert Albert mare The Patriot, is now two-for-four in 2009 for trainer Mark Cecile, and with only six other fillies in the field on Thursday night, she may again have things all her own way.

If, however, the change in venue throws Topaz Seelster off her game, then it may be Blogette Hanover, the entry of conditioner John Burns, who stands to gain. Second last week in the series opener, Blogette Hanover has enjoyed a stellar season so far, with six wins and a second in 10 starts as a sophomore. She is sired by Allamerican Native, out of the Beach Towel mare Bikini Hanover, and is co-owned by Burns, Peter Berry, and John Fielding.

The Princess Series second leg is slated to go postward as Race 4 on Mohawk’s opening night. Post time is 8:27 p.m.
