The seasoned veterans of Pompano Park proved supreme in the second day of the "Team Pomp vs. The Outsiders" showdown, capturing all four of Wednesday's (March 16) tournament races and shutting their quartet of visiting adversaries out from the winner's circle.

After Hall of Fame driver Wally Hennessey notched a hat trick in the first day of the tournament to give Team Pomp the lead at the turn, the other three members of the local squad — David Miller, Kevin Wallis and Peter Wrenn — swept Wednesday's legs to seal the 127-87 victory, led by a double from Wrenn.

Wrenn teamed up with trainer Leopold Sawyers for both of his wins, taking the opener with Doyoukissfirstdate ($5), who edged Mittaroniandcheese (Hennessey) by a length in 1:54.4 before riding the pocket with Ethan ($39.40) en route to a 1:56.4 score in the fifth.

"The horse felt good; Leopold had him ready to go," Wrenn said of Ethan, whose 18-1 upset put a bow on Team Pomp's triumph over the visiting team of Dexter Dunn, Yannick Gingras, James MacDonald and Andy McCarthy. "I just sat there; no work for me at all."

Also victorious in Wednesday's tournament races were Maggiesmomoney ($7), who powered to a 1:56.4 score in line to Miller after a strong middle move from third; and Prairie Cougar ($7.80), a 1:52.2 winner in line to Wallis after quarter-moving on favourite Fox Valley Tinka.
