When the gate sprung in the first race at Northfield Park on Sunday evening (March 13), Zack Tackett sent Golden Genes to the lead and his trotter made every pole a winning one in progress to a seven-length victory in the $7,000 Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association (GLADA) Trot.

Sent the second choice in the seven-horse field, Golden Genes paid $6.40 for the win.

After starting from the four-hole, Tackett was challenged by Hititoutofthepark but he refused to yield, and the two trotters raced one-two by the first stanza in :28.1. The order remained the same as Golden Genes got first call at the half in :58.

With Tackett showing the way, he kept the pedal to the metal. At three-quarters, Golden Genes began to draw away from his challenger. They had four lengths on their competition when they headed for paydirt and at the wire they were seven lengths ahead of the betting favourite Pepin Coolie, who rallied late for second money. Third place went to Emerald Chip, who was driven by Lauren Harmon.

Golden Genes, a five-year-old Big Stick Lindy gelding, is owned and trained by Betty Clegg.
