Longshot Southwind Icenfire scorched the $26,676 Mares Winners Over/Select Pace field at Bally’s Dover, posting a 12-1 upset in decisive fashion on Wednesday night, Feb. 7.

Jody and Southwind Icenfire duelled for early control while 1-2 favourite Majorca N retreated to fourth after floating forward. Jody briefly held the lead reaching the opening quarter in :28, only for Southwind Icenfire to vacate the pocket and rush to the top past that station. Majorca N sprinted up to challenge Southwind Icenfire for the lead but was rebuffed and parked out. The two mares raced side by side to the half in :56.3 before a tired Majorca N dropped back sharply and clogged the outside tier. Southwind Icenfire accelerated to the three-quarters in 1:24.2, and the daughter of Betting Line drew clear steadily to win by 6-1/2 lengths in 1:52. Party Cruiser shook loose late for second and Tae finished third.

Art Stafford Jr. drove Southwind Icenfire for trainer Kevin Lare, as one of three winners on the card for owner Frank Chick.

I Did It Myway takes on Sprocket and Belmont Royale N in the Blue Hen/Open Handicap Pace on Thursday night. First post is 4:30 p.m.
