Rideau Carleton Raceway embarks on its 60th season of live harness racing this Sunday (Feb. 13) with a 12-race card.

The first card of the season features the return of Guy Gagnon’s champion four-year-old pacer The Light Speed.  After duking it out over four months last year, Yves Tessier’s National Debt conceded his perennial crown following his Boxing Day defeat.

Sunday’s preferred pace is deep and attention surrounds Team Archer/Copley’s new acquisition National Sport.  Set for the final dash, Rideau’s $10,500 preferred pace is the final leg of the Pick 5 commencing in Race 8 and offers patrons an attractive $25,000 guaranteed pool.

“This year, Rideau Carleton will be featuring a talented pool of young drivers such as O’Brien Future Star finalist Samuel Fillion, Jimmy Gagnon and Ryan Guy, reminiscent of the time Louis-Philippe Roy and Brett MacDonald raced here,” noted Racing Manager Peter Andrusek. “With so many of our horses returning from last year, they become more than simply betting interests for our fans, but rather compelling sagas to follow and support or oppose depending on one’s perspective.”

Sunday’s first post is 6:30 p.m.  Catch the Drive in Show with Graeme Mitchell starting around 4:30 p.m. followed by John MacMillan and Graeme’s 2022 Year in Preview.

All participants are asked to be vigilant of the ongoing circumstances with the downtown trucker protest to ensure both safe and timely arrival.
