Alexachase was up to her old tricks coming from off-the-pace to win the $23,000 Mares Open Handicap over a 'sloppy' track Monday at Dover Downs.

With Corey Callahan and Monochromatic marched to the lead and whacked out panels of :26.4, :55.4 and 1:23.4. Race favourite Southwind Jazmin applied pressure on the leader going to the three-quarter pole before with Alexachase riding that foe’s cover. Alexachase swung wide in the late stages and used a :28.2 closing quarter to win by a half-length margin over Monochromatic in 1:52.4. The show dough was earned by Mystra.

The five-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Jet Away five-year-old now boasts a 2-2-0 record from six starts this season for trainer Donald Brittingham. The 19-time winner, who now boasts a bankroll totaling $259,934, is owned by Johnny and Kimberley Waite of Camden, DE.
