The Raceway at Western Fair District hosted two $6,000 Auld Lang Syne events, one for pacers and one for trotters, over a sloppy track on the New Year's Eve card Monday, Dec. 31.
Expensive Toy took the pace going wire to wire as the odds-on favourite in 2:03.2. The 11-year-old Camotion gelding took control from Comback Matt heading to a :29 first quarter. Slowing to a 1:00.2 half, Expensive Toy forced Stir And Serve first over from third and kept him parked past three-quarters in 1:30.4. The Patrick Shepherd trainee strolled into the stretch to win by a length over Keaton kicking off cover for second while Stir And Serve settled for third.
Owned by Denise Carr, Expensive Toy won his fifth race from 24 starts this season and his 38th in 240 overall, earning $447,372. Travis Henry drove the $3.30 winner.
Jagersro sat pocket and pounced on pacesetter A Whole Lotta Sass through the lane to upset the Auld Lang Syne Trot in 2:06.3.
A Whole Lotta Sass faced little pressure on the point, leading through fractions of :30.1, 1:02.2 and 1:34 while Thunderaway provided a brief first-over challenge from two lengths away. Owner-trainer-driver Dennis Morrissey tipped out of the pocket into the stretch and surged to a three-quarter length win at the wire. Schrader Hanover finished third nine lengths away.
Winning her second race from 26 starts this season and her 16th in 94 overall, Jagersro has now earned $106,883 and paid $24.90 to win.
