M G Energik Upsets Simpson Final

Driver Anthony MacDonald sent M G Energik gate-to-wire to pull off a 15-1 upset in the $34,800 Robert Simpson Claiming Series Final for trainer and owner Rene Allard on Saturday night at Georgian Downs

Using the inside post position to his advantage, M G Energik forged to the front leaving early speedsters Uncle Josh (Paul MacKenzie) to settle for a two-hole trip and Countyline Cam (Tony Kerwood) parked out.

M G Energik proceeded to carve out fractions of :27.2, :57 and 1:25.4 en route to a 1:55.2 three-quarter length victory while his stablemate, Midnight Horizon (Simon Allard), advanced from last with a three-wide move to finish fourth. Western Diamond (Scott Zeron) and Kendal Accolade (Robert Shepherd) came on in the stretch for second and third.

M G Energik paid $33.30 for the upset. The six-year-old Passailed-Comtesse Sarah gelding, who finished third and second in the opening legs of the series, notched his seventh win in 24 starts this year and pushed his earnings to $44,805. The victory was his 16th lifetime and lifted his bankroll over the $200,000 mark.
