A bold move in the backstretch proved to be the winning move for Dave Boughton, who guided Blended Whiskey to a career-best clocking of 1:54.2 in Monday’s $20,000 Ontario Sired Autumn Series for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings.

Blended Whiskey, whose victory earned him the privilege of choosing a post position for next week’s final, circled past the battling duo of Allamerican Extra and Lakers Vett as the field neared the mid-way point of the mile.

Once Boughton cleared to the top with the Don Lindsey trainee, it was lights out for the rest of the field. Herestopatrick circled around stalled cover to finish in the runner-up spot and Allamerican Extra rounded out the Triactor ticket in the 10-horse contest.

Owned and bred by Paul Lindsey of Fergus, ON, Blended Whiskey won for the second time in just eight lifetime starts. The win bumped his rookie earnings to $28,750.

The top nine finishers from tonight’s elimination will join Top Corner Terror, who received a bye to the final, in next Thursday’s $40,100 championship.
