Inverness Raceway's 2023 racing season came to a close with an eight-race card on Sunday, Nov. 5. American Risk took the feature finale, with Redmond Doucet securing the driving title while Zachary Mullins and Donald Beaton tied atop the trainer standings.

In the $2,100 Winners Over feature, which served as the season finale, American Risk swept the field with Andrew Campbell in the bike to give trainer George Rennison his third winner on the closing day card.

Leaving from post six in the field of six, Campbell opted to take back to last in the early stages as Euchred and Walter Walker took the field to the opening quarter in :28.4. Euchred continued to have things his way to the half in :59.1 as the outer flow began to develop in the second quarter. Windemere Best Man and Redmond Doucet powered to the outside of the leader to put their nose up-front at the three-quarter pole in 1:29.4 as American Risk watched from third-over.

As the field turned for home, American Risk made quick work of the field in the lane, surging home in :30.4 to win by just over a length in 2:01.1. Rennison stablemate Privilege and Rodney Gillis rallied for second, with Euchred holding tough for third. American Risk returned $2.80 for the victory.

The victory was the sixth in 16 seasonal outings for the seven-year-old gelded son of American Ideal-Kissing Bandit. With the win, American Risk pushed his career earnings to $117,827 for owners Risky Bizz Group.

Driver Redmond Doucet went into the closing day card already with the driving title secured. With that in mind, Doucet drove two more winners on the card, bringing him to 35 victories for the meet. Rodney Gillis secured second in the drivers standings with 24 victories on the meet, with Monica Sutherland rounding out the podium with 18 victories in her debut season.

On the training side, Zachary Mullins and Donald Beaton could not be seperated at the conclusion of the season, each conditioning 15 winners for the meet. Lanny Hanscombe secured the third spot in the standings, training 12 winners over the course of the meet.
