When Ed Hensley resurfaced at Fraser Downs in September after a 10-year absence, he said he was looking forward to “having some fun for the winter” and “renewing some old acquaintances”

The 45-year-old Hensley is having fun all right and his ‘old acquaintances’ in the barns at Fraser are well aware he hasn’t lost his magic touch.

Heading into this weekend, Hensley has overtaken Jim Marino as leading driver and has also nudged past Serge Masse in the leading trainers category. In 187 driving starts, Hensley has scored 36 wins compared to Marino’s 33. Hensley’s 22 wins as a trainer have Masse (21) and Keith Clark (20) in hot pursuit.

“It’s been rewarding,” Hensley says. “It’s great to be back.”

He had spent the last several years on the U.S. circuit in California, Chicago, Indianapolis, New York and Pennsylvania.

The stats columns will be well-watched during the upcoming three weekend dates at Fraser Downs with the feature being Sunday’s final leg of the Spartacus Claiming Series with the pacers going for a $20,000 purse.

Regular racing resumes tonight (Friday) at 7:30 p.m. but this Saturday and the first three Saturdays in December the start times will be 6 p.m.
