Conditioner Yves Tessier collected three victories on the 11-race card at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (Oct. 3), including a win in the co-featured $9,200 Preferred Handicap Pace with National Debt.

National Debt sat last of the sextet to a :26.3 first quarter and a :55 half clicked through a skirmish for the lead. Hitman Hill came rolling three wide into the stretch first time to seize the lead from Racemup while Ashleysbest, parked around the first turn, tucked into third. The Light Speed then angled off the pegs from fourth around the second turn and grabbed control approaching three-quarters in 1:23.2. National Debt meanwhile found himself second over into the final turn, and came charging with fresh legs to the finish to nab The Light Speed by three-quarter lengths in 1:52.2. Racemup finished third with Ashleysbest taking fourth.

A 10-year-old stallion by Allamerican Native, National Debt won his 11th race from 19 starts this season and his 77th from 217 overall, pushing his earnings to $665,039. Francois Morin owns the $4.40 winner while Pascal Berube sat in the bike.

Tessier took his second victory on the night in the race following when Sports Jacket ($5.80) pounced from second over to win a $6,900 claiming pace in 1:54. His last win came in the last race on the card with BS Tyrrific ($21.10) tearing to the lead late to win a $6,700 claiming pace by a head in 1:54.2.

Capteur De Reve took control early and maintained the lead to the finish to win the $9,200 Preferred Handicap Trot in 1:56.3.

Driver Guy Gagnon sent the seven-year-old Muscle Mass gelding to the point from post 6 and carved a clip of :29.1, :59 and 1:28 under minimal challenge. Ripped And Ready, the 6-5 favourite, started cruising first over moving up the backstretch and ranged closer to Capteur De Reve into the final turn. Through the stretch, Capteur De Reve kept a two-pronged blitz from pocket-sitter Crossfit and Ripped And Ready, respectively, at bay to win by a head. Gloire Dream finished another four lengths behind in fourth.

A homebred for Ecurie Provoquante, Capteur De Reve won his sixth race from 11 starts this season and his 31st from 87 overall, pushing his earnings to $311,127. Maxime Velaye trains the $6.30 winner.
