Launching off cover into the final turn, The Fixer flew to a 1:56.4 victory in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Trot at Flamboro Downs on Tuesday (Oct. 27).
The Fixer landed in fourth from the pylon post while Sicario set the pace by a :27.2 first quarter prompted by post-8 starter Bastiano parked to his side. The pair dueled by a :56.3 half as The Fixer caught Bastiano’s cover towards the backstretch, but was forced three wide as Bastiano faltered to three-quarters in 1:27. Into the final turn The Fixer slid past Sicario as he tired to the inside and opened two lengths straightening for the finish while chased by 9-5 favourite In Secret, extending his advantage to two and a half lengths under the beam while pocket-sitter Power And Grace held third.
A four-year-old gelding by Trixton, The Fixer won his seventh race from 21 starts this season and his 13th from 49 overall, earning $164,473. Scott Coulter drove the $7.70 winner for trainer David Frey and owner 1652281 Ontario Limited.
Lively Rocket ripped from the back of the pack to take the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap Pace in 1:55.3.
American Tour N took the lead heading to a :28.1 first quarter while facing first-over pressure from YS Tallia through middle fractions of :57 and 1:25.1. Lively Rocket raced third over into the final turn and began to rally once driver Jason Ryan angled the five-year-old Pet Rock mare three wide. American Tour N and YS Tallia clung to their front spots into the stretch but failed to turn away Lively Rocket’s momentum as she swept to a one-length victory over pocket-dasher Queso Relleno.
Owned and trained by Ben Hollingsworth, Lively Rocket won her ninth race from 26 starts this season and her 21st from 91 overall, earning $131,958. She paid $19.70 to win.
Irish Thunder threw away his competition in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot, coasting to a 1:58.4 victory.
Grabbing the top from post 3, Irish Thunder posted a :29.1 opening quarter and went the rest of the mile unchallenged. Lighting splits of :59.4 and 1:28.3, Irish Thunder opened six lengths on 2-5 favourite Magic Night overtaking second spinning into the stretch, with the late roller cutting the winner’s margin to three-and-a-quarter lengths at the finish. CT Conabra, despite broken equipment, finished third another seven lengths behind.
Trained by Peter Brickman for trainer Eric Swainson Brickman, Irish Thunder won his seventh race from 21 starts this season and his 26th from 124 overall, earning $124,292. Austin Sorrie drove the nine-year-old Angus Hall stallion who paid $13.30 to win.
