One of Ontario’s most popular horse people, the late Fred Sadler, will be honoured with a special memorial race at The Raceway at The Western Fair District in London, Ont. on Saturday, Nov. 3.

The native of Parkhill, Ont. was a fixture at the London track for several decades and was the leading driver there in both 1984 and 1993.

In addition, Sadler won several driving titles at other Southwestern Ontario tracks such as Clinton and Goderich.

“Fred was a very fierce competitor on the racetrack,” recalled The Raceway’s Racing and Gaming Manager Ian Fleming. “But, off the track, he was one of the most popular and well respected horsemen in this part of the province.”

Sadler retired from the track with 2,036 wins and $2.9 million in purse winnings to his credit.

One of his best performers over the years was top Ontario Sires Stakes competitor Wispers N Rumours. In recent years, he owned the speedy Larjon Barty, trained by his son Alan. The pacer is a career winner of just over $81,000.
