Pocono Features To 'Jenny' & 'Gigi'

The second choice caught the pacesetting favourite in the shadow of the wire in both $16,000 distaff pacing features on Tuesday night at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Jennys Terror hadn’t earned a dime in her last five starts, but the subpar results were more a result of bad racing luck, and the daughter of Western Terror had plenty of backers as she rallied from second-over to overtake the front-stepping Rockette in 1:54 while taking the first cut of the feature. Andrew McCarthy guided the sophomore daughter of Western Terror for trainer Steve Elliott and The OK Corral.

The temperature was a “balmy” 54o for the race won by Jennys Terror, but the mercury had plunged to 42oF (or 6oC for those who are non-bilingual) by the time the second division went to the gate.

Such cool conditions could be thought harmful for a filly named Gigi From Fiji, but in fact the Ponder sophomore took a new mark of 1:53 in just edging Sapphire Breeze by the smallest possible margin.

Mike Simons had the catch-drive behind the new member of the $100,000 Club for trainer Mike Deters, who also co-owns with Lawrence Barnett, Joel Warner, and John Spindler.
