Frosh Colts Star In Joe O'Brien Memorial

Two-year-old pacing colts headlined a 14 dash race program Friday night at Red Shores Summerside featuring the Joe O'Brien Memorial Stakes

Rebelforce and driver Marc Campbell got the stakes program rolling scoring in 2:00.2 for trainer-owner Kevin MacLean. Making just his second start, Pownal Bay Cooper, with Mike Stevenson at the controls, took the second division winning in 2:02.2 for trainer Dale Pinkey and owner Ian Smith of Charlottetown while Norris Rogers drove Balbriggan Fox to victory in the third $5,000 grassroots division in 2:03.3 for trainer Blaine McKenna, who co-owners with Harold Culleton of Ellerslie, P.E.I.

The first $10,000 gold split of the O'Brien Memorial went to New School in 2:00.3 for trainer Kenny Wilkie. Gilles Barrieau did the driving for owner Tasha MacKenzie of Stratford, P.E.I. and Whim Farms in Rothesay, N.B. Barrieau also guided The Eagle in the final stake for Michael Blanchard of New Glasgow and Barry Blanchard of Kars, N.B. The time of the mile was 2:00.4.

Pans O Silver won the evening's top class in 1:57.1 for driver Brodie MacPhee. MacPhee, who was driving for his grandfather Alex, tipped three-wide at the three-quarter pole to map out a three length victory over Riccaras Sun (Mike Stevenson) while Barrett Jackson (Kenny Arsenault) completed the winning triactor.
