Homey Joe Pushes For London Win

Driver Paul MacKenzie launched a final-quarter assault with Homey Joe to score a 1:58 victory in the $7,800 featured pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Wednesday night (Jan. 11).

Journalistic led through opening splits of :28.4 and :58.2 with the first challenge mounting from Homey Joe up the backside a final time. MacKenzie pulled from third with Homey Joe and blitzed Journalistic to the final turn. Journalistic shortened stride off the turn and Homey Joe surged to the lead to win by 1-1/2 lengths at the beam. Pocket-sitter Easy Flyer secured second with Giddy Up Max vaulting from the backfield to take third and Journalistic settling for fourth.

Trainer Mark MacQuarrie co-owns Homey Joe with Angus MacQuarrie. The nine-year-old Hes Gorgeous stallion won his 27th race from 156 starts and has now earned $258,363. He paid $8.50 to win.
