Members of the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club enjoyed a great tour at Bedrock Training Centre in Beaumont, Alberta, on Sunday morning thanks to the hospitality of horseman Kelly Hoerdt and Amy Henry.

Bedrock, one of Alberta’s premier Standardbred training facilities is owned by Hoerdt, one of the Fan Club’s Faces of Racing, along with long time standardbred owner and breeder, Blair Corbeil.

The morning kicked off with Kelly providing an overview of the training centre and then giving the guests a tour of the facility. Guests were able to interact with several horses including Ghost Pine, Cool Cowboy and Thats Extra.

There were a number of demonstrations including an equisizer demo, swimming demo, shoeing demo and an equine massage demonstration.

Amy Henry showed the group all of the different equipment that a standardbred wears for jogging and racing. She then demonstrated how to harness a horse and took several Fan Club members for a jog around the track with Medicine Hat.

Charlene Barry from the Standardbred Network Association had an exhibit set up to showcase the many opportunities that retired standardbred race horses could have after their racing careers.

The Bedrock team really went out of their way to make the day very special for Fan Club members. Many of the guests commented on the amount of information presented on harness racing and the fact that the tour gave them a sense of what really goes on behind the scenes and how much work goes in to the horses.

Congratulations to Marcy Fodness and Paige Scheck, who each won “Dinner for 4” at Northlands Park Colours Restaurant.

The Fan Club would like to extend their appreciation to everyone who took part in hosting a great tour for the members including Kelly Hoerdt, Amy Henry, Jim Diakowics (equisizer) Porter Hill (blacksmith) Megan Kelly (equine massage), Charlene Barry, Joe O’Brien and Robert Sabourin Jr.
