Trot Insider recently caught up with Canada's reigning Driver of the Year, Paul MacDonell to discuss a trip to Mohawk Racetrack and schooling sessions for two of the nation's top juvenile trotters from last season

.

Elusive Desire, last year's O'Brien Award winning two-year-old trotting filly, is close to returning for trainer Mike Keeling and owners P. C. Wellwood Enterprises of Cambridge, Charlie Armstrong of Brampton and Robert Fasken of Oakville, Ont.

"Elusive Desire will likely debut around the Casual Breeze or the Elegantimage eliminations," said MacDonell.

The Angus Hall-Valley Amber filly ended her rookie campaign with three straight wins, including a dominant eight length romp in the Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final.

MacDonell's second schooler was with one of the two horses he co-owns, trotting colt Pointe Of Honour.

"We'll try to get Pointe Of Honour into a non-winners conditioned race then hopefully enter the eliminations for the Goodtimes."

Co-owned by trainer Paula Wellwood, Pointe Of Honour won only one race as a two-year-old, but it was the $300,000 OSS Super Final. The winner's share of the purse help vault the Striking Sahbra-Garland Bonita colt's bankroll to $262,114.

Stay tuned to the SC website as Trot Insider will post the second part of our discussion with MacDonell on Thursday.
