Still No Decision On Dresden

The Ontario Racing Commission’s manager of communications, Ray Kahnert, has provided a bit of an update regarding whether there will be live harness racing at Dresden Raceway this year or not.

In a piece by Trevor Terfloth for the Chatham Daily News, Kahnert told Terfloth via email that the commission is in the midst of wrapping up its investigation into the Dresden application.

In its application, officials with the Dresden Agricultural Society proposed the first day of its meet to be May 31. Officials with the Ontario Harness Horse Association stated last month that they were concerned with the fact that the status of the meet is in limbo.

In his email, Kahnert wrote, “In view of this timing (the proposed May 31 start date), the ORC is finalizing its investigation into the application for racing submitted by the Dresden Ag Society.”

He went on to state that, “While a decision of the director (as per the legislation) will be released in a timely way, I am unable to give you a specific date at this time.”
