Favourite Boomboom Ballykeel made his Flamboro Downs debut a winning one on New Year's Eve as he prevailed in a photo finish in the featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Handicap Pace for horses and geldings.

The sophomore son of Mach Three is conditioned by Canada's 2014 leading trainer Richard Moreau and is owned and bred by Ballykeel Racing Inc. of Tillsonburg, Ont.

With Billy Davis Jr. catch-driving, WEG invader Boomboom Ballykeel ($4.30) rallied wide from third over heading around the final turn before out-sprinting Mach Pride, who had swept up from last to overtake pacesetter Sky Desperado. The favourite prevailed by a neck over Mach Pride in 1:57.1 over the "good" track, which was rated two seconds off. Emerald Lexus finished two and a half lengths behind in third off a pocket trip.

The 2013 Metro Pace champion has won five of his 22 starts this year, including two Ontario Sires Stakes Gold legs, while adding almost $140,000 in purses to his half-million dollar bankroll.

Davis also drove the streaking double-gaited mare Pureform Olympia to a narrow victory in 2:01 -- her fifth straight at Flamboro since switching to the trot late in her five-year-old campaign for trainer Gord Remmen and owner Shelley Nyuli of Abbotsford, B.C.
