Jamieson Has The Eye Of The Tiger

Jody Jamieson may impersonate Fred Flintstone one day of the year, but most of the time he does a pretty good job impersonating Rocky Balboa

.

And just as the Italian Stallion did throughout all of the legendary Rocky flicks, Jamieson has used dedication, drive and desire to win.

The curtain lifted on the 2009 season at Georgian Downs on Tuesday evening, and the opening night belonged to Jamieson who celebrated a six-win performance on the 12-race card.

Jamieson, who plans on fitting Georgian’s Tuesday cards into his schedule on a regular basis, had just a single victory during the first half of the opening night program, but he showed no mercy to his fellow reinsmen in the back half of the card.

He finessed Morning Man (2:00.2) to a pylon-skimming score in the second race, and was reunited with the winner’s circle in the seventh race thanks to an impressive score with Hi Got The Look (1:59).

There was no touching Jamieson from the ninth race onward as he ran the table thanks to victories with Southwind Avalanch (1:55.2), Zorgwijk Fortunate (1:59), Partyingwithweaver (1:58) and Spectacular Link (1:57.1).

“I’m hungry this year,” Jamieson told Trot Insider when asked about why he has dedicated more time to driving away from the WEG circuit. “I see stories on Standardbred Canada’s website about Tim Tetrick and a bunch of other guys winning six races a night, and I just think I’m a driver that should be doing that, too.

“The opportunity is there for guys like me to drive, and I want to be known as a driver that did it when I had the chance,” he added. I don’t want to look back and say ‘I wish I had done that’. I don’t want to rest on my laurels.”

Jamieson’s competitive nature is another reason he admits to logging the extra hours in the bike.

“There’s a lot of young guys out there trying to break in, and I want them to know that I’m around when there in a race with me,” Jamieson added. “The young guys are out there wanting to win races, and I just want them to know they have to go through me in order to be the top guy.”

So far this season “Double J” has racked up 83 victories and more than $800,000 in purse earnings. The career winner of 4,359 races recently surpassed the $55 million plateau in lifetime earnings, and that number figures to grow substantially when you take into account his Rocky Balboa mentality.
