Remmen Wins Legends Trot

It was a day nothing short of Legendary. Twelve Hall of Fame drivers descended on small town Clinton, Ontario to bring together thousands of race fans for a Sunday afternoon in support of the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation.

With a record handle of $48,900 and a crowd 20 deep at the wire, this is what harness racing is all about.

Ray Remmen and Susie Kerwood trainee The Northern Dude captured the $15,000 Legends Day Invitational Trot in true legendary fashion with a gate-to-wire effort in a new track record of 1:59. This was Remmen's first Legends Day win, and by the smile on his face, it was well worth the wait. Ron Waples and Amigo Loco were not far behind for second and Cimeronken, driven by Bill O’Donnell, rounded out the triactor.

Clinton Raceway also played host to Ontario Sires Stakes for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings in which one of the featured Legends Day drivers, Steve Condren, steered Kadabra gelding Tyrone Haji to a maiden-breaking 2:03.1 victory for Hall of Fame trainer Bob McIntosh.

The other $18,000 Grassroots divisions went to Windsong Kinley (2:04.1), Conway Escape (2:09.1), Solar Son (2:03), and Passed Dat Point (2:05). Solar Son's winning time set a new track record for freshman geldings on the trot.

Daniel Semalu won the $7,000 Jack Campbell Memorial Pace in 1:56 with Clinton's leading driver Trevor Henry in the sulky for trainer Richard Moreau.

While there isn't a total available at this time, the event was an amazing success and great fundraiser for the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation.

As one of the owners of the Northern Dude I would be remiss in failing to offer sincere congratulations to my trainer Susie who along with my partner and breeder Ann who are also my friends. Thanks to our driver Ray Remmen for a legendary drive. This is an example of grassroots racing at it*s finest besides a sum of money for their hospital. Well done everybody! This was not even the biggest purse of the day so the smiles on the faces of Susie and Rene show money isn*t everything. This is part of a history that should remain in place forever! Are the powers that be LISTENING?
