Jamieson Top Driver At WEG, Baillargeon & Fellows Share Trainer Honours

Jody Jamieson wrapped up a stellar season with a holiday bow last night at Woodbine Racetrack by capturing his first WEG Driver’s title with a total of 282 wins from 1,666 starts, and a UDRS of .297.

Jamieson sat out the final card of 2008, but remained 22 wins ahead of his nearest rival, Rick Zeron, who finished out the year with 260 visits to the winner’s circle from 1,793 starts. Randy Waples was third in the year-end standings with 248 victories to his credit.

Jamieson, who was an O’Brien award winner in 2007, has once again been selected as a finalist as he goes up against Paul MacDonell for a second consecutive year.

The WEG Trainer’s title will be shared this year by Benoit Baillargeon and Rob Fellows, who finished out 2008 with 95 wins apiece.

Between them, they had six entries who went postward on the final night of racing at Woodbine for 2008, but as neither stable was able to score a victory, the tally for the veteran conditioners remained unchanged.

This will be the first WEG title for both Baillargeon and Fellows.

Defending champion Casie Coleman, who is once again an O’Brien Award finalist, remained in third position, with 80 winners to her credit this season on the WEG circuit.
