Keeling: Good Racing Saturday At Fraser

With the National Driving Championship's western regional event taking place at Fraser Downs Saturday, December 13, top reinsman will be descending on the five-eighths mile oval. Chuck Keeling of Great Canadian Gaming has been around long enough to know the fresh faces will translate to top-notch racing.

"Any time we can bring in drivers in from outside jurisdictions, people look at that positively. It adds an element to watching and wagering on races," Keeling was quoted as saying in an article by the Vancouver Province. "We'll see some good racing Saturday."

With the winner and runner-up advancing to the National Driving Championship, the pilots will be fighting tooth and nail. Keith Clark, Kelly Hoerdt, Gerry Hudon, Darryl Mason, Glenn Le Drew, Bill Davis, Scott Knight and Jim Marino will be locking horns Saturday.

The western regional will be an eight-race competition. The two drivers who accumulate the most points will advance to the national event scheduled for March 21, 2009 at Fraser Downs. They will compete against Brad Forward, Paul MacDonell (Ontario Regional representatives), Guy Gagnon, Daniel Potvin (Quebec Regional representatives) Gilles Barrieau and Marc Campbell (Atlantic Regional representatives) to determine a National Champion and Canada’s representative at the World Driving Championship scheduled for May in Norway.

In addition to Keeling's comments in the Vancouver Province report, driver Jim Marino has also discussed the event in the article.

Too bad it's quite unfair and rather slanted to local driver/trainer entries who were allowed to enter their own trained horses which in one case will have three favorites while some visitors are saddled with as many as four long odds....Fraser Downs' race secretary dropped the ball on this competition.....this not a true luck of the draw!

Good luck to Darryl Mason today. Hope to see you and Paula in the winner's circle!! From your Friendly Farmer from across the lake back home!!
