Hurrikane Kingcole Early Fave For NJ Classic

Hurrikane Kingcole, who won the Meadowlands Pace consolation with a season’s record 1:47.3 mile, has been installed as the 7-5 morning-line favourite in the $275,000 Anthony Abbatiello New Jersey Classic, the 14th race on Saturday’s Hambletonian Day card at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

In the $125,000 Thomas D’Altrui Miss New Jersey, the fourth race, Rockaround Sue will put her three-race winning streak on the line. She was made the slight 2-1 choice in the filly companion race.

Both stakes for New Jersey-sired three-year-old pacers are sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey and are part of a stakes-laden program on August 4 with 15 betting races and one exhibition – the $15,000 Racing Under Saddle Open which will take place between the fourth and fifth races.

More than $4.8 million in purses will be distributed on Saturday. First-race post time is 12 noon.

Hurrikane Kingcole, driven by Yannick Gingras and trained by John McDermott, will start from Post 5. The son of Cams Card Shark won his Classic elim by a length and a quarter in 1:48.3, tossing in a :26.4 final quarter.

North America Cup runner-up Time To Roll, who captured his New Jersey Classic elim, drew the rail and has been rated the 3-1 second choice by linesmaker Darin Zoccali.
