'Meliss' Equals Mohawk Track Record

Four Starzz Meliss turned in a five-star effort on Friday at Mohawk Racetrack, which propelled her to a track record equaling performance for aged pacing mares when she won the Mares Open Pace in 1:49.3.

The seven-year-old daughter of Cambest left from Post 2 for driver Luc Ouellette and grabbed control of the race just strides out of the starting gate. Once on top, she did not receive a challenge from any of her five rivals and cruised to the easy win.

Pink Kangaroo (Dave Wall) came on to get second, falling short to 'Meliss' once again. To Helen Back (Mike Saftic) rounded out the top three.

It was the eighth victory this year in 15 starts for the Glenn Lalonde trainee, who is owned by Jennifer Lalonde of Guelph and John Nother of Brampton, Ontario. The lion's share of the $42,000 purse increased her career bankroll to more than $550,000.

The clocking gave her a four-way share of the track standard with Rons Girl, Moving Pictures and Ideal Weather.
