Warren McIntyre Passes

Trot Insider has learned that industry participant Warren McIntyre, of Glace Bay, N.S., has passed away at the age of 78.

McIntyre, the son of the late Michael (Red Mick) and Edith McIntyre, was active in sports in his younger days, playing baseball and hockey. He was a free spirit who had a deep love for dogs and horses. He worked at various jobs, including a term in the Royal Canadian Navy and stints in the coal mining and construction industries.

For most of his adult life, McIntyre raced and trained Standardbreds in Canada and the United States. He amassed 94 wins in his training career, many of them at Flamboro Downs, near his eventual home base of Dundas, Ont., before passing in January of this year.

Warren is survived by his companion, Linda Lessard; four children, Donald (Barbara), David, Karyn (Jeff) and Dwayne (Tedi); two stepsons, Steve (Kelly) and Patrick; as well as four grandchildren, Nathan, Jordan, Sidney and Jacob. He is also survived by brothers, Allan (AnneMarie), Doug (Elsie); one sister, Marlene Gouthro; brother-in-law, Dan Davidson; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Warren was predeceased by his first wife, Marie Cooper; sister, Donna Davidson; and nephew, Jimmy Davidson.
