Sophomores And Veterans Set To Clash

A trio of top-notch three-year-old fillies will face a triplet of grizzled veteran mares in the Thursday evening (Oct. 29) feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has an 11-dash presentation scheduled for Thursday evening and it is set to kick off at 6 p.m.

The featured $2,500 fillies and mares pace will line up for Race 10, and Southwind Ion, who will have rail control in the clash, has been installed as the morning line choice. David Dowling will be back at the controls for trainer Jennifer Doyle, who co-owns the daughter of Sportswriter with Danny Birt of Earnscliffe. A five-time winner this season, Southwind Ion has not drawn inside of Post 6 since her last victory on September 24. Dustylane Zambucca has seen her stakes career come to an end earlier this month, and the three-year-old daughter of Camystic will look to add to her $29,425 bankroll from Post 3 on Thursday with Corey MacPherson at the lines. The Tom Weatherbie stable has a pair of three-year-old Ontario-bred entrants with 1:52 winner Bettorthanbobbi (to be driven by Mark Bradley) from Post 4 and nine-time victor Temagami Seelster (Brodie MacPhee) from Post 5. Lyons Jennielee (Myles Heffernan Sr.) will start from Post 2, while Filly Forty Seven (Marc Campbell) will be shouldered with the outside Post 6.

Peter MacPhee with the 'Post Time Picks' has tepidly placed Southwind Ion in the win position. “Southwind Ion finally gets an inside post and we’re betting Dowling will be firing off the wings. You have to think she’s going to get a great trip from here and may even reach up and win.”

The $2,400 Open Trot will take to the track for Race 8 with Mile Hill Willie the morning line choice from the outside in the field of six. Brodie MacPhee will be back in the bike behind the Paul Morrison-trained Mile Hill Willie as regular pilot Gilles Barrieau must drive his own trainee, Cheeky Little Minx, from Post 3. Other top entrants include Windmeredontuworry (Heffernan) and Freddie (Campbell).
