Solid Qualifying Win For Lillysilk

Woodbine Mohawk Park hosted a nine-race qualifying session Tuesday morning (July 21) and four of the dashes were devoted to two-year-olds. The most impressive rookie during the morning session proved to be Lillysilk, who uncorked a sharp move on the turn and paced home to a tidy victory.

Jody Jamieson was at the lines of Lillysilk -- who is an Anthony Beaton trainee -- and the duo lined up in Post 5 for Race 4.

Jamieson and the daughter of Captaintreacherous--Silky fired well from the gate and lead the field into the opening turn. The pair geared down prior to the :30.2 quarter pole and opted for a forwardly-placed position through the :59.4 opening half.

(Lillysilk's race starts at the 53-minute mark.)

Jamieson called on Lillysilk on the final turn, and the duo tipped out first over as they rounded the bend. Lillysilk was right up at the leader at the 1:29.1 three quarters marker and continued to spar for the top spot into the stretch.

Lillysilk continued her mission through the lane, as she finished up her mile with a :27 final quarter. When all was said and done, Lillysilk was first under the wire in 1:56.1 and her margin of victory was one and three-quarter lengths.

Lillysilk was an $80,000 yearling purchase at last fall's Lexington Selected sale and is owned by Steve Heimbecker, Michael Guerriero, and Larry Menary.

The other two-year-olds to notch victories during the session were Fashion Frenzie (2:00), P L Oliver (1:59.1), and YS Patricia (2:00.3).
