Crackle N Burn Upsets In Open

A set of $9,000 Open events went postward Monday afternoon at Century Downs, with Crackle N Burn upsetting the applecart in his assignment and Lady Neigh Neigh coming through as a popular winner in her test.

Crackle N Burn, who was 21-1 in the $9,000 Open Pace got away next to last in the eight-horse affair while Freedoms Fellows marched to the lead and laid down fractions of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:26. Philip Giesbrecht got his charge into the flow on the way to the half and they continued to track cover until past the three-quarter pole. Crackle N Burn unleashed a :28.1 closing panel which was good enough to earn him the neck decision over Boiling Oar in 1:54.4. Kneedeep N Custard, who was first over in the mile, was a lapped-on third.

Rod Starkewski of Lamont, AB owns and trains the four-year-old son of Blue Burner-Crackers Hot Shot who picked up his first win of the season and the 10th win of his career. He’s banked over $10,000 this year and more than $150,000 to date.

Lady Neigh Neigh was a wire-to-wire winner in the $9,000 Fillies & Mares Open, and in contrast to Crackle N Burn – she was a winner at a fraction of the price.

Sent off as the 4-5 choice in the nine-horse affair, Lady Neigh Neigh muscled to the top and carved out fractions of :28, :57 and 1:26 before kicking home in :28.1 to win by four lengths over Scardy Cat in 1:54.1. Taking home third prize was Born A Dragon.

Trainer Chris Lancaster co-owns the four-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Santinos Rosa with Chris Lambie. Together, they’ve watched the pacer put together a 3-0-0 record from four trips to the track this season. The 15-time winner pushed her lifetime earnings over $180,000 with the win.

If the Fillies and Mares Open goes faster than the Open Pace, shouldn't the girls get top billing? Just sayin... #ChocolateTerror #BornADragon #ScardyCat
