Weather Shortens Sunday Clinton Card

After a quick-moving storm rolled through the Huron County oval on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 18), officials at Clinton Raceway were forced to cancel the tenth and final dash of the program due to heavy rain and lightning strikes.

Race fans were treated to some beautiful weather for the majority of the day and the Vanastra Curling Club was able to raise just over $4,000 during its trackside fundraiser.

Ladies were celebrated and fancy hats were adorned as the track held its first annual Ladies’ Day event. The Bet Exotic promotion was conducted, where all non-winning exotic wagers were entered into a co-promotional draw with Hanover Raceway and sponsored by Robert Q Travel of Clinton. Paul Pierce was the lucky winner, and will have a $1,500 travel voucher to head somewhere warm this winter.

The dash with the most lucrative purse of the afternoon was Race 8, which was won by the Don Beatson-trained and Natasha Day-driven Old Buck ($8.30), who shrugged off a Post 8 start and went on to win from off the pace in 1:57.

Driver Scott Wray had the hot hands during the weather-shortened nine-dash card, as he posted four victories.

The handle over the nine contested races topped the $25,000 mark.

Two Sunday afternoon cards remain in the 2019 live season at Clinton Raceway. On Sunday August 25, the track will host its annual Kids Day event, which is a free family-friendly day for race fans of all ages and will include the second annual Wiener Dog races.

The track’s 2019 campaign will wrap up with the 39th annual Charity Driver's Challenge on Sunday, September 1, a fundraiser for the Royal Canadian Legion. Post time for the card will be at 1:30 p.m. Event details can be found at www.clintonraceway.com.
