Redemption For Seeyou Men

After a break in stride cost him in his last London appearance, Seeyou Men ($6.20) swept from astern to capture Wednesday evening’s (April 18) $9,000 Preferred 3 Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Consistent with Seeyou Men’s tendency to rally from astern, Robert Shepherd was patient with the six-year-old Muscle Mass gelding when the gates folded in and dropped to sixth spot behind the pacesetting Fluff Me Up (Louis-Philippe Roy). After 9-5 favourite Fluff Me Up controlled strong early fractions of :28.2 and :58.3, Shepherd angled Seeyou Men off the pegs to gradually gain ground on approach to the clubhouse turn.

On the second circuit, Seeyou Men worked into mid-division before switching three-wide to work around a stalled Thee Desperado (J Harris), who forced Fluff Me Up to the three-quarters point in 1:28.2. But while Fluff Me up turned aside his first-over adversary, he had no answers for Seeyou Men, who took over in the final 150 yards en route to a 1:58.4 score. All Out Henry (Scott Young), who switched three-wide from a ground-saving trip a quarter from home, chased down the grandstand side to take second while a length in arrears. Fluff Me Up faded as soon as he was headed in upper stretch, but still held third.

Isabelle Darveau trains 17-time winner Seeyou Men for owners Catheline Pelletier and Chantal Gravel of Québec.
