Pull The Shade Favoured In Austin Final

Three-year-old Dragon Again filly Pull The Shade is the favourite for Sunday’s $11,600 final of the Mark Austin Pacing series at Dresden Raceway.

Pull The Shade, who is owned by Sheri Abbott of Windsor and trained by Steve Roberts, has won two legs of the series in different fashion. Garrett Rooney put the filly on the front end for a win in 2:00.4 in the first leg while the second leg saw Pull The Shade step off her back half in :57.2 for a three-length win in 1:59.3.

The second favourite, Step In My Groove won two legs of the series as well with front-end speed for driver Nick Steward in 2:00.4 and 2:00.3, respectively. The four-year-old Rambaran filly is owned by Pam Loomis of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and trained by Bill Kirkpatrick.

Pull The Shade is 8-5 and has drawn the rail for the final while Step In My Groove is 5-2 on the morning line and will score from the five hole.

The Series is in honour of trainer Mark Austin who died suddenly in 2014. Austin got his start at Dresden Raceway and helped develop superstar trotter A Worthy Lad as well as working for Jack Darling with starters such as Northern Luck and Gothic Dream. Austin became a prominent trainer in Ontario with horses like Sparky Mark and Fool Me Once in his stable.

Austin was enshrined into the Dresden Raceway Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Sunday is also Kids Day at Dresden Raceway, with tons of giveaways and prizes for kids as well as face painting and other activities. First race post time is 1:30 p.m.
