Campbell’s Sires Stakes Fillies Favoured

Elektra Express, who has been nothing short of spectacular all season, will look to continue her Atlantic Sires Stakes dominance this Friday evening (July 14) at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway as part of Governor’s Plate Week racing.

First-race post time for the 12-dash card is 7 p.m. Elektra Express has drawn Post 3 in her $9,160 Atlantic Sires Stakes ‘A’ division for three-year-old pacing fillies (Race 11). The three-year-old daughter of Western Paradise has already been victorious in Atlantic Sires Stakes action in Nova Scotia, as she made visits to the winner’s circle at Truro Raceway on June 4 and at Inverness Raceway on July 3.

The ‘King’ of Island racing, Marc Campbell, is favoured in every ‘A’ division on the card with fillies from his own stable. Campbell will sit behind Elektra Express for owner Danica Ellis of Brookfield, NS after having elected to drive stablemate Elm Grove Ladyluck in her latest outing – a move which left Gilles Barrieau in the driver’s seat for that Atlantic Sires Stakes victory. With Campbell back in the bike, her top Friday competition will come in the form of Post 1 starter Kinda Like Her (to be driven by Kenny Arsenault) and Goodmorning Ky (Norris Rogers) from Post 5.

The first three-year-old filly ‘A’ division will head postward for Race 3, and Elm Grove Ladyluck has drawn Post 3 and has been selected as the classifier’s choice with Campbell in the bike. The filly is the property of Nova Scotia owners Dan Belliveau of Halifax and Ric McNutt of Onslow Mountain. Other top choices in the compact field of five include Bonzai Beach (Gary Chappell) and Pictonian Dazzle (Ryan Ellis).

The other Atlantic Sires Stakes ‘A’ split has been carded as Race 8 and there is a very familiar theme, as the Campbell-trained and driven Filly Forty Seven has been installed as the morning line favourite, yet again with Post 3, in the $9,160 contest. Elektra Express may lead the way in the Atlantic Sires Stakes, but Filly Forty Seven has earned the most money so far this season, thanks largely to her $23,600 Maritime Breeder’s final victory. The three-year-old daughter of Proven Lover is owned by Darryl MacLean of Winsloe, Katelyn Smallwood of Stratford, Cory Carver of Montague and Nova Scotian Tanya Tremblett of Sydney Mines. Traces Of Purple (Barrieau) was a convincing 1:57.2 winner in Atlantic Sires Stakes action at Inverness on July 3 and has drawn Post 5, while Shesaroyalcowgirl (Mark Bradley) has drawn Post 4 in the six-horse field.

The Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old pacing filly ‘B’ divisions will line up for Races 4, 6 and 10, each for a purse of $2,500.

The $2,500 Andrew Perry Memorial Invitational Trot, which has been carded as Race 9, will feature the top trotters in Atlantic Canadian harness racing. The field includes Freddie (Campbell) from Post 5, Osprey Impact (Walter Cheverie) with rail control and Holy Molie Maggie (Barrieau) from Post 4.
